Lukey's first visit to the dentist

Mama has been quite concerned about this little boy's teeth since they sprouted... Mostly because he's been drinking milk to sleep and to stay asleep!!! And it's not rocket science that it's just a matter of time this will lead to cavity etc... Haiz.... And it was quite timely that ST's Mind Your Body ran an article on it last week and I've been following the National Dental Centre's paediatric dentistry page on Facebook since... Finally emailed for an appointment yesterday, expecting the check to be some months down the road... But they called me in the evening to ask if I wanted a slot the following day at 9am with a lady dentist or 11.30am with a guy!! Hahaha took the 9am slot... Not because of gender but timing! 11ish usually hungry and sleepy and grumpy!! Hahaha...

Woke babe early today as we targeted to set out at 8am... And to do that, all I had to do was to pick his favorite book of the moment, read it out loud next to him.... By the 3rd of 4th page, I had a smiley baby sitting up looking at the book with me!! Hahahahha....

Took an hour in the morning traffic to reach!!! Gosh!!! I was a little anxious about his reaction at the dentist and was talking to him about it since I confirmed the appointment..... Was almost quite sure that he may just bawl and refuse to open his mouth!!! Hahaha.... Oh well, just gotta go with the flow.... Gulp!

Was pleasantly surprised when we arrived... (Mama's dentist is here too) They now have a kids corner at the waiting area!!! They are really sprucing up paediatric dentistry!! Of course little boy was delighted as well and was exploring the corner with auntie Lowe while mama registered.

We didn't wait long for our turn. :) Babe insisted I carry him when we went in... Perhaps he knew something was not quite right? Hahahaha..... We walked in to a chirpy, smiley (and pretty) dentist who greeted us warmly.. "Hello Luke".... Babe looked around... And I could feel his grip on me getting tighter... Doc started talking and asking questions while we tried to familiarize him to the environment.... Stickers and pictures lined the walls.... He had a not-sure-if-I-should-cry-now-or-later look!! Hahahaha... Wanted to go out but managed to distract him with this and that... And auntie Lowe took him while mama talked to the doc... He even came down to walk for a while....

Then came the examination time.... It doesn't matter how well u prepare your child.. Really.... Hahaha... Doc explained the game plan and we were ready. Babe sat on my lap facing me... Hesitant but still ok... Then I lowered him down on the pillow on the doc's lap and the tears, screams and struggles started!!! Hahaha.... But the doc and nurse were really good and patient!! Holding him firmly and calmly... While doc brushed, examined and applied some fluoride thingy, all within 30 seconds!!!! Gosh!!!!! But of course, the crying continued.... (Auntie took him out to play and he was ok after that.... ) Doc discussed the diagnosis (I'm impressed with how detailed it was with that 30seconds of brushing amidst the wailing!!) and shared more tips on how to brush babe's teeth properly... Then we were on our way home!

We'll see you 3 months later!!!! :)
